I'm really thinking about turning an excisiting barn into an indoor school. Is 15 metres by 25metres too small for flat work? Also does any body know what surface would be the best to usein this small space if it is possible?

I would say yes too small! bearing in mind you do a DR test in a 20mx40m arena at the smallest. I have an outdoor 50x25m and I love it its fab as I have more room for jumping but can work off the fence to practice DR tests. i cant realistically see that size being worth the money and effort of doing it, sorry!:o

our indoor is that size (old cow barn) - its ok - perfect in winter!!! but it is small. although better than nothing. We have sand and rubber.

One near us is 17mx28m and is fine. I notice it a bit on my green 17h horse, but not on the others, and the ponies are as normal in it. Anything is better than nothing..

ps. the surface is waxed sand, so it is lovely and light in colour -which adds to the feeling of size.

Ours is small and square, ok not ideal for everyday (hence we use the outdoor!) but it was an absolute godsend in winter when we were able to ride as normal, just working on a circle. It meant while other yards couldn't do anything we were at least able to exercise our horses.
