Do any of you have an area where you walk where something always seems to happen? We have one here (Peel Park in Eliburn). There is definitely a strange energy surrounding that park. I could reel off a list of things that have happened there, but it would be a very long one. Brochan has had more negative experiences there with other dogs than anywhere else. One time a guy was walking along with his two off-lead dogs. One of them came charging up to him and went straight to his private area for a good sniff. Brochan was in a right state and it took all my restraint to stop him getting at the dog. The guy kept calling his dog, but it wasn’t paying any attention at all, and kept harassing Brochan. Several minutes later and it finally lost interest. The guy’s other dog started to approach Brochan, but it was smarter, and actually took heed of Brochan’s warning growls. Another time, a couple of small yappy dogs (also off-lead) started to circle him and harass him by getting too close to his personal area. This went on for a good number of minutes until the owner (who had been shouting herself hoarse at them) eventually managed to get them under control. On Valentine’s day of this year, we were walking through the park, when a Yorkie came running up to us. Brochan was okay at first, but wasn’t too keen when the Yorkie started to get too personal. We started walking away, but the little dog started to follow us. There was no sign of an owner, so I tried to shoo him away in the hopes that he would go home. However, we were about half-way home, and the dog was still following. I called my Mum as I thought we might have a problem. Then, we were just a few minutes from home, and the dog was STILL there! Phoned Mum again and asked her to be at the front door, and sure enough, the dog followed us all the way home! The Yorkie was really timid with us, but (for some strange reason) was obsessed with Brochan (maybe he was in desperate need of a Valentine
). Despite the fact that Brochan wanted nothing to do with him. Anyway, we got Brochan in, and shut him in the lounge. Then, after quite a bit of coaxing, managed to get the Yorkie into the house. He had a collar on, but no tags. We phoned the police and they asked if we could keep the dog overnight, but we couldn’t because Brochan was getting really anxious about there being another male dog in the house. So, we fed him, then took him to the police station. By this time, he had come out of his shell, and was a really sweet little dog. He was scanned, but there was no sign of a microchip. We sadly handed him over (would have loved to have kept him), but we were relieved to learn he was reunited with his owner a couple of days later.
A few weeks ago, we were walking through the park, and found ourselves walking behind a couple of older teenage girls. One of them threw her fish and chip box onto the grass and I felt my blood pressure rising. I worked up the courage to say something, so we speeded up, and as we passing them, I said that there were plenty of bins around. I got quite a bit of sarcasm in return. Then, they overtook us, and the girl threw a bottle of juice into a bin with so much force that it almost knocked the bin over. I was angry (because I hate littering), but was rather chuffed with myself for saying something. Haven’t been back at the park since that happened.
