Have any of you encountered this?

I noticed yesterday that Ted had a smallish swelling near his sheath under his belly- I initially panicked a thought sarcoid, however the lump appeared very quickly, overnight when he was turned out. Ted's stabled very near to a forest, and unfortunately we get lots of flies, which is why during summer we only turn out at night.

Today I noticed that the swelling is bigger but I'm relieved to say it appears to be a bite of some sort that's got infected. I managed to find a really small crusty yellow scab on the lump, presumably where the insect bit him. I've cleaned the area and covered it in antiseptic. He can't itch the area due to it's location on his belly.

However, I'm worried that the lump may get bigger as it's not going down at all. If it's got much bigger I'll call the vet just in case they need to drain it. Ted is a bit sore where the lump is although he'll let me touch it, but stamps his foot if I try to prod it.

Is it worth trying to poultice it, to draw out any pus/fluid? Also, is there such a thing as horse antihistamine creams? I know that I often get massive fly bites when walking the dogs in the forest and find that these creams reduce the big swellings that I get.
