Horse had a tick in the groove just about his chin last weekend. Tick fell off of its own accord and now bite is infected. I pulled the scab off yesterday and a lot of pus came out. Squeezed it and a lot more came out. Hardly any has come out this morning. He's had Dermobian smeared all over it. Do I need to do anything else?

Do ticks drink as much blood as they can and then fall off or would horse have rubbed it off?

The tick will leave of its own accord but if it has been knocked off you need to make sure that the head has come out. It probably has if there is alot of puss. Clean it daily with warm warter to draw anything out. Keep squeezing out the puss and putting the anti bac stuff on. If the swealling gets bigger then call the vet for some anti-biotics. You need to be careful about Lyme disease (not that comon - dont panic). Get a tick remover from your local vets. I have about 5 and keep them everywhere.

Sounds like the horse may have knocked it off.
Our springers have had loads this year, and the Bear ended up with a couple of nasty pus filled lumps as the mouthpart was left behind.
Treated pretty much the same as you.
That said, our vet said it can take WEEKS for the swelling to properly disappear, even if the tick falls off of its own accord!!
Horrible little critters
