My 3YO friesian mare Jewel developed puffy lumps on both hocks, near hind more severe (front facing, outside edge where shin bone meets bottom of hock area). The lumps look very like a windgall on the fetlock. There is also a general puffyness in the centre of hock, front facing side too. The first vet thought it was OCD but subsequent clinical examination denied this and suggested inflamed tendon sheaths. She has now been rested for several months and the swollen lumps have gone down to almost nothing but the puffiness further up does not seem to improve. can anyone give me any advice. My mare is not at all lame.

I can't advise you at all but I went to look at a pony once that was totally sound but had what I can only describe is the same lumps as you mention just below his hocks. He also had puffiness across the front of the hock joint on both legs too. Put me off even having him vetted as I was concerned about it cosmetically, not just from a soundness issue. I didn't buy him.

Yes if it had been there when i looked at her i would't have had her vetted either, but it wasn't, nor was it there when she was vetted. We think it might have happened when she was put in with he newbuddies, they ran like mad, she slipped a couple of times on the wet grass. One vet said that he had swwn lots of horses come back from cross country with the injury. Thanks anyway
