Basically whats the difference with sharing and loaning a horse/pony? I've seen a few share ads what would this involve normally? Thanks

A share will be a couple of times a week (for a fee) and usually some stable duties like mucking out on the day you ride, or poo picking. People usually have sharers because they don't have the time to do everything themselves or because they need someone to help exercise the horse

A full loan is what I have. I pay for everything for the horse day to day; feed, livery, shoes, vets fees, vaccinations, teeth, insurance etc. The owners have nothing to do with the day to day stuff, I just defer to them if a serious decision needs to be made (such as having his hocks medicated last month) or if I want to move yards, for example. I have a set of rules (loan contract) that they have to abide by but that's it, and it's just general stuff like what he can and can't be used for. When my previous horse was out on loan I used to check on him about once every 3 months, though my boy's owners have been to visit him once since August last year I think (though I assume that means they trust me!).

Sharing is as its namesake, you are 'sharing' the horse with its owner. This often entails riding and doing the chores for the horse on set days a week. Most shares are for 2/3 days a week and share charges vary depending on area/type of horse etc. It is normal to pay up to £10 per day that you ride the horse. Sharing can also be called part loaning.

Full loaning involves the loanee to have full responsibility of the horse, all its costs and day to day chores. In most cases the horse is allowed to move from the owners yard to a yard of the loanee's choice. So its basically like having your own horse but without the initial costs of buying. A loan contract (can be downloaded on BHS site) is important so that the loanee and owner know where they stand on notice periods etc.

Thanks for the info. Specially making me aware with the sharing that their maybe a financial contrabution. Im more intrested in sharing as loaning I couldn't afford. Thanks.
