I posted on here last night about my horse who has been showing some erratic behaviour over the last 3 days. He was run down in the herd by a horse he is usually friends with.. Then yesterday was just being generally odd in the field, wouldn't come in and staying by the fence refusing to move and then today didn't wan to go in his field, when I did get him into the field he ran off miles away from the other horses then spent all day calling and flirting with a mare that was more than 30 ft away in another field.. Just staring at her, then brought him in and he spent the afternoon screaming the yard down! He is usually the most docile horse, gets on with everyone in the herd.. But the herd dynamics are really strange at the mo.. & something is definitely up with my boy.. He was quite bulshy today & I have never known him to be rude being handled.. Got talking to someone today and they mentioned that strange behaviour such as this cam be due to hind gut issues.. They've known of a few horses showing colt or stallion like behaviour over mares and being run from the herd.. Any info or advise needed as I have never heard of this before.. Thanks

Hi there! Sorry to hear of your problems. An unbalance in the hindgut can give you many symptoms from colic type signs to the erratic behaviour you describe, and milder ones ie runny poo. If there is a possibility of this being your problem, it sometimes stems from too much starch in the hind gut which can be from the hard feed. The best product I can recommend which will sort the problem for you with one tub is Rite Track from Kentucky Equine Research, it isn't something you need to feed all the time. Check it out on their website: http://www.kerx.com/products/RiteTrac/[/URL]
If it is you feed you should look to switching to something with a lower starch content like Releve or feeding less of your current one. Hope this helps.

I have changed his chaff in the last few weeks so perhaps it has different ingredients to his usual hifi original.. He also has runny poo! Thanks for the info!
