ive been looking at this feed and wondered can it be fed with rolled barley and sugarbeet???

the reason i ask is because thinking ahead  ive brought 75kgs of rolled barley and will need to use this up first.

ive read alot of good things about it for weight gain, the main thing is its non heating unlike the barley that i feed.:D

My mare is fed on alfa a, rolled barley, speedy beet and coolstance. She has had many bad reactions to different feeds and has always had trouble keeping weight on. I started adding coolstance to her feed in August and she looks great, almost fat which is unheard of for her.

thats good,:)

i just wasnt sure about feeding it aswell as rolled barley and my sport horse seems to have dropped abit of weight already:rolleyes:

he's now on high quality hay and in at night with adlib hay so hopefully he wont loose any more.

boomerang is very good for weight without adding too much fizz. 75 kgs of barley for one horse in one winter is quite a lot to use!! have you thought about boiling your barley into a porridge? very good for weight gain and maintenance and doesnt fizz them up. are you feeding any fibre based feed as well like alpha a? apart from the sugar beet?

It's great stuff for maintaining/ putting on weight. Should be fine to feed with the barley, it's basically coconut anyway, pure fibre and oil.

ofcourseyoucan: i think i will use that much barley because at some point i might have to start feeding our percheron, upto yet he is just on hay and thats last years and he is holding his condition fine.:)

im not feeding any other fibre based feeds:confused:

the problem is my dad only fed his driving and his broodmares rolled barley and sugarbeet so ive followed the trend:rolleyes:
so i brought plenty of barley and sugarbeet when i had some spare cash to start stocking up for the winter ahead.

i dont know much about all the other kind of feeds you can buy these days:o

I've really done my research on this & many people have amazing results on Coolstance Copra with no heating or fizzziness & its a fattener even in the winter, it can be used as well as Barley or as a feed on its own with nothing else in it - great for coat & feet too!!

i cant wait to try it - i just hope he'll eat it - if he doesnt i will!! lol :-(

i cant believe its not very well known. :-)

Some do not like the y smell of it so I have to mix it with something else for the fusst one to mask the taste. It is very effective, my 22 yearold TB came out of the winter looking the best ever, but he was eating about 2/3 of a bag a week.

Do you use it on its own as a complete feed or did you mix it??

sorry to hijack your post Kitey!

so songbird has been very kind in buying me a bag of coolstance:eek:
along with her bag.

another  question.

recomended daily amount for a horse in light work = 1kg

i pressume thats dry weight:o

i mixed half a stubbs scoop = 1kg with 2 full stubbs scoop of water,

4 parts water to 1 part feed.

it already looks like theres going to be loads due to it swelling,

so is it 1kg dry weight or 1kg of soaked:confused:

if its 1kg dry weight a bag will only last 20 days
