as the title says what infor is actually on the chip?

if i took a dog to the vets and had it scanned what info would come up immediatly?
also do vets charge for doing this?

thanks x

The chip will have a number which should have been registered with Petlog.
It will be something like 95800000XXXX61

A qualified person (which is most people who can implant) then phones the number in to get details of who the chip is registered to.

Not all chip registrations get sent in but in this case they can tell you who supplied the chip and the chip supplier will have a record who it was sold to.

A vet shouldn't charge but ask first. Dog wardens have scanners as do many groomers.

i didnt know groomers could do it!

im looking after a lost dog for the police, but nothing is getting down with him untill wednesday or thursday, i have been told i cant get him scanned myself, but ovibiously dont want to pay a fortune!!

but then i suppose it would still be down to the police to contact the owners (if hes regustered) which still wont get down till wednesday.

im just surprised no1 has reported him lost.

A microchip is a rice grain sized capsule which carries a transponder. This is what carries the info.
There are more than just petlog who hold a chip database, but if you have a dog/cat scanned, all the databases should be able to tell you which company holds the info on the chip.
I know that petlog can even tell you who chipped the animal (each batch are registered to the chipper) and that person, if following procedure SHOULD have a paper copy with the details if they have not been sent in by the owner (another reason I send them in myself!!)
If you are close enough to me I can scan him for you (am just off the M3 junction 4a) and petlog will issue me the details if he is held on their database.

The police no longer have dealings with lost dogs and it should be reported to the local authority dog warden instead.. Sounds like you got the old advice.
