Dear friendly people of Horse and Hound, I need your help.

The company I work for has asked me to consider working in Burnopfield (I'm in Cheshire at the moment). Apart from a couple of work trips there (mainly involving driving to a hotel and crashing out!), I have very little experience of this area.

If I moved, I'd be bringing my horse - would need a stable in the winter, either full or assisted livery and somewhere to ride after work. We like to event, so jumps on site would be a big plus but not a necessity.

So:
- what areas should I look at living in?
- what livery yards are nearby?

Many thanks in advance :)

Lots of options tbh depending on what you what and are wiling to pay for both for you and the horse :) I live across the way in Rowlands Gill, but you could work in town and commute or live very close - all depends what you are looking for as there is everything from rural to city with quite a close distance :)

That's an easy area, as above, for all sorts of different types of places to live and livery. Personally I'd choose Lanchester area to live and livery and commute to work. Rural, quiet, pretty village with plenty of decent yards and not too far to drive to Burnopfield. You're looking Durham/ Gateshead not Newcastle for Burnopfield though (unless you want to live in Newcastle and have more travel but that will be a right PITA- crossing the river always causes getting stuck in traffic one way or another). You could live in a more urban area if you go Gateshead way or even Stanley/ Consett. As above Rowlands Gill is a nice place too and not far at all, I just have less knowledge of it in terms of yards etc.

Thanks everyone for the advice - I'll be doing a bit of research on the areas you've suggested. Definitely not interested in getting stuck in traffic every day, I do enough of that on the M6!
