I need to go on a bit of a shopping spree and these two shops have been suggested to me.

But which is best for kitting out a new horse?

Planning on going to the stores not online :-)

Thanks

Not been to RB but Ingatestone is big and will have everything you need. However it's not the cheapest.

I find Titmuss cheaper for basics e.g. things like buckets and pitchforks - I bought a freestanding saddle rack and saw it at Ingatestone a few weeks later at much higher price. They also have a comprehensive range of supplements and potiions but not as much in riding wear and tack. Hertford horse bits are very competitively priced especially for horse and human clothing and sell online/ebay too however the shop itself is small so not such a wide range.

If you want to get everything in one place then Ingatestone but if you want to shop around for the best deal then maybe not.

Same as Criso, I go to ing fairly regularly but not been to rb. ing is a decent size and range, may not be as much or as cheap as online obviously, but not bad for a good old mooch around. And they have a nice cafe so you can have a break and then keep going !

I live near to RB yet took a drive over to Ingatestone recently so that may give an indication...

There is more variations of pricing at Ingatestone so for example you can buy a very cheap headcollar or a very expensive one and lots inbetween, they have a wider selection of rugs, horse boots, clothing and leather work - more brands to choose from and something for most budgets

RB have lots of stock but more of the same thing if that makes sense - for example on the rug front Horseware and Bridleway feature highly with little other choice and when browsing there recently looking at small pony saddles, I had a choice of one.

RB do have a bigger well stocked stable and yard equipment department though, the shop is generally more attractively laid out and its nice to shop there - at Ingatestone the narrow aisles make things a bit cosy if several people are looking at things

Both are good in different ways, RB doesn't have a cafe but they do make you a coffee :)

Agreed they do have a variety and different levels but tends to be at the RRP so other tackshops in the area will be better priced. I visit regularly meeting with a friend to have lunch and a mooch around but I tend only stock up on small things like fly spray where the difference in price only represents 50p so not worth making a special trip somewhere else or paying postage online.

I live about 3 miles from Ingatestone - it's lethal. I avoid it unless making a big purchase - in which case it'll usually ahve what I want. They have a wide range of stock in terms of brands/price ranges but the customer service tends to be on the basic side - if you go on a Saturday it's usually staffed by alot of teenagers who may not always have the product knowledge or sometimes the inclination to be helpful.

Ingatestone without a doubt. I used to live about 25-30 mins away from there and it is fatal. You can spend a fortune in there SO easily but they do have a lot of choice and items to suit every budget. I've always found staff to be helpful and attentive. I was not impressed with RB - not enough choice in comparison to Ingatestone.

Thanks everyone. I may well end up at both! lol
Ingatestone sounds like the best at the moment and the café sounds like a good place to leave the BF whilst I shop.
I have been to Titmuss before and do like it there but wanted a bigger range for bridles etc.
