I am in the office, my energiser is by my desk. I need to replace the clip which joins the energiser to the actual electric tape. You know the flatish one that just sits over the fence tape?

What can I use from my desk that will do the job? My paperclips are no good as they are plastic coated, do you think a bulldog clip would be up to the task?

I have a magnet at hand to check that anything I choose actually conducts electricity so suggestions gladly welcomed :)

And yes, my horses are thugs! I've just had to strip the coating of the wires in three places and rejoin them!

Bulldog clip is a good idea, but you will get zapped if you want to unclip the fence rather than switch off energiser. Only downside I can think of - oh and it will rust :)

Bulldog clip will work fine. Just strip some of the insulation off the wire. Wrap wire around fence tape (to get good contact) then secure with buldog clip. Large paper clip would also work as not needed to make the contact. Could also use tape but blue tac probably wouldn't work.:p

You want an area contact on to the taple like the original clip rather than a paper clip or a bulldog clip which will only make a small area contact so the full voltage will probably not be transferred to the tape.
You can normally buy spare clips directly from the manufacturers of the energisers.

Will replace it properly soon but I need something as a temporary fix tonight as I am going fencing in the dark to repair the damage naughty next door ponies have done to the fence and I don't want all my good work undone in the morning!
