Hi, Just wondering if any of you use inhalers for your horses with copd, and how much different are the equine ones to the human one? Iv heard of people using there own on there horses??

My horse sufferes really badly with COPD and pollen allergies. The vet didnt want to put her on the inhalers as she was very overweight due to 7 months box rest last year. She's had several lots of Ventipulmin which do get rid of it for a few weeks then it would come back.
But after doing loads of research I have put her on a suppliment called Spirinula which was designed purely for horses with COPD and other types of Allergies and she hasnt coughed since! Where as before even being in the stable for a hour eating hay she would be coughing and snotting all over the place. Im really pleased with the results so far. I also put her on strict diet control and she has lost loads of weight which the Vet said would help aswell.

Where do you get Spirinula from and how often do you use it? Thanks
I have to give my mare a scoop of Ventipulmin every day for her cough and breathing to ease. Vets are concerned with how often im using it, but she has copd pretty bad

I order mine of a shop on ebay called Progressive Earth. Really fast delivery and they are really helpful with info if you email them with questions.
My mare has between 25 and 50mls ( I think its mls) so its basically half a scoop in her feed every day but it does take about 6 weeks to start to work/ before you will notice any difference although I noticed the difference in a couple of weeks.
A bag so far has lasted me over 8 weeks.

Hi, my boy has an inhaler for his COPD, he was diagnosed with it in Jan this year and had to have an intensive course of them to get on top of the problem. He has been off them for most of the summer, but will probably need them again in the winter when he doesn't have quite as much turnout.
The inhaler he has is the drug Beclametasone and it is a human inhaler, although each puff is 250mg of the drug which is a high dose. It is administered via an infant's spacer device and he is as good as cold with it.
