As you all know rocks has breathing problems - listening to him today he sounded very nasally and had very laboured breathing. The vet has suggested an inhalor which i will try him with BUT i seem to remember someone on here saying they had a spray which they sprayed up each nostril which opened the airways - but i forget who it was or what the spray was called?
Are they the same thing, are they different and if so whats the name of the nasal spray?
Also any experience of either or other suggestions hugely welcome!
Thanks xx

Our vet recomended using a human inhaler (sorry cant remember the name) for horse with COPD. The vet wrote a prescription and we collected it from the local pharmacy but had to pay full price which I think was £26. Anyway it was a waste of time as the horse hated anything being sprayed up his nose and became quite stressed and headshy, it also wasted most of the medication as it just didn'nt have a chance to inhale properly. We were advised to try using a baby inhaler mask and sort of fit it over one nostral then puff the inhaler but it failed as well. I can't see how you can get a horse to breath the mediction in efficiently as even humans have to learn a technique for this. Good luck !!

It sounds a bit risky! Is the problem actually in his nasal passages or in his lungs? I'm sorry I hav'nt read your other posts about this.
We did try Vicks rubbed around the nose, not sure if it helped. I think it made him think polo's were on the end of his nose!!

Ditto Blagdon. Tried with Corroy they gave me a baby inhalor. As you know Corroy is fairly placed, but there was no way this was going anywhere near her and made her very headshy afterwards. Also its a pain as you have to try and get 10 squirts of the first lot up there nose wait 15 mins they 15 squirts of the next lot. Once in the morning and say 15 mins before work in the evening. Good luck

My old mare has a spray its uesd for humans its ventolin sp also she has bactonalote sp,i use it with a baby spacer over the nostril and spray.

I cant remember what its called i think its called a nebuliser or something like that, we used it on sky when she had a virus it opens up the airways and clear them, its a big bag which goes over the nose and then a tube and a pump is used to pump it into the bag, ( by it i mean a type of fluid which is created into gas i think)sorry really bag explanation cant remeber that much about it. Sky's very scatty and after a few hairy moments at first, seemed to be ok with it, we used it for 5 days and noticed a major diiference in the way she was breathing, i read an article in trainer a while ago explaining the benefits, seemed to work for sky and scooby,

Thanks for all your input guys - maybe a nebuliser would be better then as you pump rather than squirt? I'm just at my witts end with him, his breathing is worrying me and all the vets have ever done is give him a course of ventipulmin which both times has done nothing!
They have suggested a nebuliser to me....then she tried to get some blood......she quickly changed her mind about trying the nebuliser
