So my local riding club has its first show next month and they have added a few new classes. We do a bit of everything so last year we gave inhand showing a go and found we did really well at it. We normally enter Best Non Mountain and Moorland type - any age, any height,Best Conditioned Pony/Horse – any age, any height and then do some ridden showing. But this year they are also doing Best Cob type (traditional or show) – any age, any height but I don't want to enter and then look silly so I was hoping you could have a look at him and tell me what you think

Sorry bit of an overload! Also would he be ok plaited up as he would be already be plaited for the other classes? And would we be ok wearing what we have on in the inhand pictures and just change his browband for a plain one? thank you in advance

he's lovely, i think with cob - its either long mane or hogged! - although if already plaited and local show it should be fine - i do cob classes and mine is hogged but i was once beaten by a cob who was plaited - i was in first then after the walk round they put me second as her horse had obviously gone better in show so not always down to plaits and appearance etc....
good luck he looks really nice

To be honest he is not really a cob type and not a traditional type - but he is a very nice chap that would do well in other classes. Most cob types classes have hairy traditionals (like mine) or hogged out cobs and on the odd occasion a large section d type in them.

Plaited types can go in cob type as these classes have no standard as such, ie anything goes.

That said, if it is a local show, then it may be worth going in for it as maybe I am more fussy about what makes a cob or a traditional cob than other folks.

he is a little on on the light side for a show cob....i think you would be better off doing a riding club horse class...or he would do a nice workers class.

He's lovely, got such a nice friendly kind face - I love the way has top lip is protruding in the picture where he is facing the camera. But I would have said he would be more suited to Riding Club horse rather than Cob (although no harm in giving it a go to see what happens)

Nice stamp of a horse.. but I wouldn't enter cob classes with him plaited. At local level I'd give hunter pony or riding club pony a go.

If you wished to hog in the future I think he'd make a cracking cob!

Your horse is lovely, but unfortunately is not a show cob.

I would stick to the type of classes you have already been entering, and try riding club horse and working/ridden hunter?

He is also close enough for me to steal- can I have his address please?

Thanks for all of the advice

I think maybe for the first show I might give it a miss and have a look at what sort of horses enter. Although in real life he is a right chunk so maybe I will give it a go! He does do really well at riding club/ hunter type classes but they don't have those classes at this show so the non m&m and best condition is all we can really do so i was hoping we could do this one too!

0ldmare- thank you thats one of my favourite pictures of him, he was watching his lady friend do her show!

Naturally- Hoging would save me a lot of time faffing around plaiting but I don't my sister Katie would let me! Or Toto for that matter as clippers are very scary!

Chunkie- If he disappears I will know where to find him then! Good luck trying to take him in a ridden hunter class though! He finds them very fun and a perfect opportunity to show off how fast he can go and how well he can bronk!

Although he did manage to contain his excitment at the last show so hopefully he has stopped doing it

Id say working hunter pony, or just hunter pony. He is not really a "show cob" you could enter and try as at local level you can get away with it!

If he is part connie then you can enter him in part m&m classes I think.......

He would also make a great all rounder (if you have that class)
