Can anyone offer some advice please :)

I am concidering taking my purebred Arab to a local show in 3 weeks weight depending!

I am entering the Arab class inhand but I don't know where to start.
First I need an inhand bridle, what type should it be?

Barnstormers have 2 different rolled leather ones. The first has a bit and is like a traditional inhand bridle just fancier, the second is something called an Arab slip and dosent have a bit.
Which one does most people use as I don't want to look out of place?
Also is it better to go bitless or with a bit?

I also take it different inhand bridles need different lead ropes as some have two chains and some have 1 long one?

This is all very confusing :)

all of the arabs i have seen are shown in an arab slip without a bit so i'd go for that, they tend to come with a lead chain, if not its better to go for a longer one, i think its just stallions that have a bit.

Go for the arab slip but I'd be a little surpised if a 'normal' saddlery has a proper arab slip to be honest.

I'm at work at the moment so I can't post you a picture of one but will do so later for you.

You want to show your lovely arab's head off and normal leather bridles, even rolled is often too much.

Mares are most often shown bitless, geldings can be shown with or without a bit and stallions are always bitted. You can buy little bit clips that will convert an arab slip into a bitted slip so no worries there but you wouldn't use a normal bit either. You need something with small rings. You can buy arab slips with bits attached.

Arab slips are used with a chain that you connect to the lead rein then run it through the arab slip ring thing, under the horses chin, out the other side to connect back to the lead rein. By two chains I think you might mean a newmarket chain, this is not correct to use with an arab slip. A normal showing lead rein with attached chain isn't normally used either. Plus arab showing lead reins tend to be longer than normal showing ones - like up to 8ft long! Its all a little hard to describe but I can post pictures for you later.

Or look on ArabianLines.com and you'll find LOADS of pictures.

I know its a local show and you could well get away with a normal bridle but arab slips really do suit them better. You don't want the judge looking at you for the wrong reasons!

Here you go....

There are so many different ones. Current fashion is to have lots of beads hanging off the noseband and to have very ornate lace/ribbon, hard to describe really. I can't post pics as I would have to pinch someone elses and don't have permission to do so.

Thanks both of you
!

The sort of thing I was looking at was this
http://www.barnstormers.co.uk/acatalog/info_356G.html

Would this be wrong?
It dosent come with lead rein so what sort of rein would I need to buy?

I have no idea where to start buying Arab things lol, I don't really like the fan cy beaded ones though I prefer plain.

Would anyone be able to help me find one with a lead? I have searched but can't find anything! I don't have a lot to spend either hence looking at the shires one :)

if I was to buy that one what sortbof lead would I need? Plain leather or one with chain?

For local you would get away with it but they won't do your arabs head any favours. In the picture the noseband part is far too low and doesn't look like it could be adjusted much higher.

Personally I don't like that bridle, its very old fashioned but for local it should be fine. It up to you if you use a seperate chain with plain leather lead or a leather lead with integral chain.

Ah I see thnkyou perissa :)

would you mind letting me know where you got yours from (assuming those horses are yours, they are beautiful by the way!)

I would buy one like that if I knew where to find one, I've searched eBay and all the usual websites but can't find one!

Thanks again for your help

Thank you - he is the same horse, just a lot younger in the second picture! And yes he is mine :)

I got mine from the Arabian Emporium and they are about £100.

I'll go and have a nosy on ebay and see if I can find something for you but some questions first.

Mare or Gelding?
Colour?
Type?

Gelding
grey (same as yours!)
he is a chunky old style Arab... If that makes sense. He does not have much of a dish.

I am just worried I will look over the top compared to everyone else.

Ideally I didn't want to pay more than £40, pref less as we only show for fun and not very often either :)

thanks checked robinsons, sold out :(

Sorry! One thing to consider is how much control you are likely to have if it's your first show. I just know that I planned to show my Fell in a traditional white rope halter when I first got him, I've now changed my mind and will be using an in-hand bridle with a bit as I don't trust him fully not to do his tank impression when he's excited! Just a thought for safety reasons! (ps, I don't mean my boy is dangerous or unfit to be out in public, I'd just prefer to know I have a bit in for a bit of an extra reminder!)

Hi walrus,

I hope e will be okay. He is excitable but not dangerous, it is something I've thought about though. I would feel safer with a bit I think but it's hard to find an Arab inhand bridle with a bit rather than without!

I also can't find one with lead rein, argh!

Thanks perissa I do like the second one ad last one!

I've never seen anyone else using one though, I do hope I won't get marked down for not being in a 'proper' bridle!

I have no idea about breeding, I will dig out his pedigree and pm you in morning with a photo when I am not on work pc ;)
