Hi

New horse and current horse are CONSTANTLY playing over the fence - we have tried everything to stop them!!

We have had our new one two weeks, he has pulled 3 shoes off and last weekend we went to catch him and he had obviously reared at the fence playing and come down on a post - he has ripped a big part of his chest off, vet came out 22 staples - i fainted 3 times!

it is still healing - he pulled the staples out rolling - vet insists it doesnt need restapling and it will not scar.

Any advice on how to stop two horses playing across the fence - apart from turning them out seperatly or fencing another line so they can't reach each other? - we have tried electric fencing - the older horse is too wise and jumps it - we have 3 fenced fields but they all back onto each other in some way!

any advice please!

sounds stupid, but if they like each others company and enjoy playing so much, can't you just turn them out together? At least then the fence wouldn't get in the way of their games. If not, then I guess the only thing you can do is turn them out with a field inbetween - perhaps a high electric fench in a double line. If it is high and with a good spead (but not enough for a bounce), then it should keep them away. If he does pop it then I guess just sign him up for BSJA classes!

sorry i should have mentioned - we tried turning them out together - the new one is 4 the older one who jumps over the fence is 10 - my wife events him!

When they were out together they played for about an hour, then the older one wanted to settle and eat but the new one kept pestering - in the end the older one started kicking out, the younger one kept pestering then he kicked out again and caught the young one on his hind leg - seperated again - cant afford any more blooming vet bills!
