Took my 4 yr old to Patchetts yesterday for his first ever party, namely some unaffiliated dressage!
He was soooooooooo good, in fact put my older horse to shame. He loaded straight away and then stood on the lorry happily when the other horse left. Then when it was his turn he stood in the car park like a rock whilst I tacked him up. When I went in the collecting ring, bless him, his eyes were on stalks and he really disliked the other horses going faster past him but he soon settled and produced some nice work with canter on both reins. I then took him in the Prelim 13 test in the indoor school (first time in an indoor school) and he was so good! Obviously green but very honest although he was obsessed with the very sexy horse in the mirror. Judges comment was a very promising young horse who just needs time to establish his paces and rhythm.
Did not take him in the second class as he had been so well behaved that I decided to leave it on a good note.
The only problem is that he was meant to be a project horse and the other half hit the roof last night when I suggested keeping him
(Minor rant; when will people with long schooling whips learn to hold them in so that they do not wave at other horses in the collecting ring grrrrrrr)
