Yesterday out riding, I got bitten by something on my hand. It was a bit itchy on and off for the rest of the day, but nothing too bad. When I got up this morning, my hand was puffy and painful. I took an anti-histimine, but it doesn't seem to have made much difference. My hand is still swollen and quite painful. I keep running it under the cold tap, but is there anything else I can do?

I have some green gel that works on insect bites (I get some huge bites over the summer), can't remember what it's called though, take a trip to the chemist on the way home would be my advice

Cortazone cream, it may be a horsefly bite, I hate the buggers and nearly always have a reaction to them sounding a bit like whats happened to you. Just keep your eye on it as I often need antibiotics. Mine sometimes go really hot, swollen and red and have a trial of redness coming from the area and this is when I need ABs. If it doesnt start to go down soon, I think a quick visit to a NHS walk in centre may be needed for the ABs.

Soak a piece of Cotton wool with Vinegar and rub the area quite agressively - it is brillant for mosquito bies and the evil sandflies we get in NZ. I keep a Tuppaware pot filled with Vinegar and cottonwool balls in my grooming kit and one in the car just in case I get bitten.
