Insect Repellent - What are your top tips?

Now that the summer is comming I need to stock up on stuff to keep the biting insects at bay. Last year I used dilute spray of citronella and teatree oil. It smelled gorgeous but it needed to be applied fairly frequently. What are your top tips?

Get some clove oil to put in if you are making spray up instead of citronella. Works on our flies anyway.

Cooper's Spot On for cattle and sheep at the sheep dosage. One application lasts 4-6 weeks. It's about £45 a bottle but that bottle lasts me two years for two horses

It's not licensed for horses though...

Marmite sandwich every morning, and Avon Skin So Soft. And apply cold, strong, black tea every morning to top of tail and mane if horse isn't grey! xx
