So, I've been asked to do some stable management lessons tomorrow with Transition Year students, (it's like a year out between exams for school kids in Ireland). Some of them will be horsey, others not. Any great ideas out there for exciting lessons for a group of 16 yr old's? My old lesson plans are boring me, so they must bore others. The sessions will be between 45min to an hour. All ideas appreciated. Thanks.

Get them to name different types of bedding, and the pros and cons of each
Get them to name different types of feed
Show them how to muck out, and skip out a bed
Show them how to put on and take off rugs, get them to name different types of rugs and their uses
Ask them to name the brushes etc in a grooming kit and what they are for, then show them how to groom, and what the difference between quartering and strapping is, explain the importance of brushing the horse before you tack up to ride, and why you leave strapping till after you've ridden
Show them how to put on a head collar and the correct way to lead a horse (put your hard hat and gloves on as well!), and explain about grazing in-hand and walking a horse to cool off after it's been ridden.
Show them how you trot a horse up to test for lameness
If the weather is suitable give the horse a bath
Show them how to put on stable bandages
Get them to name out different tack and what it does, and show them how to tack up
If the weather is decent give a horse a bath
Show them how to check for heat in limbs, and injuries to the soles of the hooves and go through a first aid kid and how to use stuff (you don't need to demonstrate on the horse, just show them "you'd apply this, here like this..")
Plait mane and tail (if you know how) and general tarting up for a show
Get them to clean tack

That ought to fill the first 5 minutes! ;)
