Has anyone tried installing fans in stables or on the yard to try and deter midges and other flies? If so, are there any do or don'ts you can pass on?

We installed a fan in the last few weeks our cushings pony lived. It was a very hot summer and his ability to control his temperature had gone so we needed to keep him cool.

Keep the cable well out of reach of anything and don't underestimate how high a 11hh sec A can reach if they've a mind to......

We screwed the fan to the ceiling beam and ran the cable close tacked all the way around the walls. It was a godsend for him and made him a lot more comfortable. No idea if it helps with midges though - too far south for those!

Thanks. Did you just use a desk fan and fix it to the beam?

We did just just a desk fan - and it wasn't during our swallows season. I certainly wouldn't have done it in a stable with an active nest. Make sure you have good fuse options just in case.

Thanks. Currently we have no swallows nesting as it's a brand new building but thanks for the warning.
