instant calmers

I've used several instant calmers on my horse for travelling. Naff Magic did naff all but sedaline always works - its makes her very droopy as long as you give enough ;)

Make sure you are giving it enough time to work ;)

I gave it plenty of time and didnt even touch the horse! even the vet told me it doesnt work for all horses! But thanks for the heads up about Naff Magic.

What is it with people constantly doping their horses these days?? Am I the only one who doesn't possess any of these drugs?? I am always stunned by the amount of people on here who seem to resort to sedalin / ACP as if this is normal! Maybe people should firstly look at what they are feeding their horses and, well, STOP!!!

Firstly Get off your HIGH HORSE!

I am intending on having them freezemarked and the one is quite stressy - so i want something to take the edge off and the horse not be so stressed about it - IS that ok with you?

I'm not on my 'high horse' and it wasn't necessarily directed at you personally but people immediately seem to suggest sedalin and it amazes me how people just seem to have this at their disposal and seem to see it as their answer to everything. Too many people would appear use it as a quick fix as opposed to for specific situations. Fair enough you're considering it for a particular reason and I apologise if my post was a little stroppy but i guess i just get wound up when I see people at certain events 'controlling' their over-fed, pumped up horses with such drugs because otherwise they cannot control it.

There is a new one out which you can syringe into their mouths and better than Sedalin, it begins with a D---. My vet wanted to use it on my old mare to have her teeth done, but anything that looks like a needle/syringe she goes apeshit but I cann't remember the name.:o:o:o:o

LOL - don't panic lady25 - I am old school too but just sometimes you do need to calm a horse for everyone's safety (horse included) whether that be travelling or freezemarking. Just sometimes the situation calls for it and I know from years back that ACP tablets were regularly used ;) and now sedalin seems to be readily available (I just ring my vets and they leave it out in the box for me to collect) and believe me its a Godsend for a difficult horse every now and then ;)

Timing is everything when using a calmer - its no good hitching up the box, getting the horse bandaged up and then giving it a calmer because the adrenaline will kick in and over ride it. Same goes for most situations.
