I was looking in a horse magazine the other day, and I came across this advert in there for this liquid that you put in the horses feet and it dries hard i think

I dont know what it was called, sorry. Has anyone used it &do you think it can replace shoes, as my pony doesnt like the farrier?

Thanks![:

Whether your pony has shoes or not it will still need it's feet trimmed so will have to see the farrier (or a barefoot trimmer).

Okk thanks(:
Just thought thoughh, my pony has very tough feet but there is some very rough tracks nr where I live, do you think they would help anyonee? as i dont really want to get her shod:S

No. If your pony doesn't like the farrier he is not going to enjoy the process of having Vettec applied to his feet. Also the product will not take the wear a metal shoe would. It is usually used on foals and laminitics to make a 'shoe'.

Try hoof boots if shoeing is a problem. However, you will still need pony's feet trimmed by a professional.

ETS If your pony has tough feet, the rough tracks should not prove to be a problem. Mine are both unshod and work on roads, gravel, stony tracks, mud, rocks, you name it we walk on it. Boots can help if you need to protect her feet while she gets used to different surfaces. Hopefully she won't mind you putting them on and taking them off everytime you ride.

Have you tried your pony without shoes? If she is fine on roads and an arena, you ought to be able to get her to cope fine with the rough tracks with some gradual working up to longer times on it. Or she might just be one of those ponies that copes straight away.

If you get through the winter fine and then she goes footie on stones in the spring, that will be the spring grass and you might need to restrict her access during daylight hours. (if you are unlucky, she will be more sensitive than most and that won't be enough).

My horses are like ChicoMio's - they don't care how stony the ground is.
