I'm looking for an instructor, preferably freelance (i.e. someone who will come out to me), in the Eden Valley (south pennines) across to Durham / Darlington area.
I have someone that I usually use, and that is very good in getting to the root of problems and seeing what the horse is telling me. I respect this person completely as a horseman, and think that they are pretty amazing, but the thing is that while I am actually having the lesson, I generally feel completely inadequate and don't have a very good time. It would be nice to find someone that I feel more comfortable and on the same wavelength with.
I'm not a wimp, and don't mind behing told that I'm doing something wrong, but I often get to the point in the lesson that I can't do what I'm being told for feeling totally useless and although I am left with essentials to work on, I often feel that I haven't anything specific to work towards other than generally trying to get the horse working 'better'. Half of the dilemma is that I kind of feel I should stick with this person as I respect them and their results so much, but on the other hand, I don't really enjoy it, so what to do? My horse does improve after they leave I put what they said into practice, but in terms of progressive training, I don't feel like I'm moving forwards.
Half the problem is that up till now I haven't been able to afford regular lessons, but am planning on having two per month at least now, as I have new PT time job.
So, recommendations please.
I have heard that John Collier at Blackdyke farm, Carlisle is very good, but I would prefer not to travel that far if I can help it - I am south of Penrith.
Doughnuts if you get this far...wine if you reply!
