How much do you pay for free lance teaching insurance and perhaps for clipping?

I don't teach much, but did some jumping courses for my local rc/pc and some of the participants asked about having further lessons. I don't really know if it would be worth it as I'd have to do a lot of lessons to cover the insurance.

Also, would freelance insurance cover you teaching people in your own field - ie, on my XC course?

Thanks.

I get my insurance through the BHS register of instructors and grooms. This year it cost me around £300 including the BHS membership fee. This included Care, Custody and Control.

I don't have my own land to teach on but I would imagine you would need additional insurance for this.

It's worth calling around as some policies offer a "limited hours" option for less money. I'd say, depending on your age, experience, type of client etc, you'll pay in the mid to high £200s for freelance teaching, say, less than 10 hours a week.

However, teaching on your own property/horses is different, from what I understand, and will likely add to your premiums, as does doing a lot of XC teaching. When you ring they can work all that out for you.

Thanks. I think with a full time job it won't be worth it for a couple of lessons a week. I think its best to continue running RC/PC courses and staying under their umbrella.

I have teaching insurance added to my combined business policy with NFU, it meant increase of about £250 a year in my premiums and I am insured to teach anywhere, as long as the horse is client's/not mine.
