If your horse is insulin resistant, this results in higher levels of blood sugar doesn't it? So can that also result in a deterioration of behaviour - as in when a horse has too many carbs and can't metabolise it? Thanks.

Right. We're exploring why my horse seems to be hyper all the time - for the last few weeks this is. Vet is taking bloods, just wondering if it could be metabolic. Thanks.

I've never heard of hype horses being IR. idiot pony was always hard to get going and just had no oomph. Once we found out last year he was IR he complete changed and had so much more energy.
Has he been tested for ulcers? These could make a horse change behaviour suddenly.
Has he changed feed? To of mine can't go on pony nuts as it makes then hyper to the point of I can't ride them, it's the same with haylegde.

My horse has a hyper fit if he gets any sugar. Someone put a mollasses lick in his field a few months ago and he had an accident when he got caught in the electric fence lunging at the gelding next door - completely out of character. He can't have carrots either, same reaction.
Have you just brought them in and is he having carrots in his feeds?
Mine also reacted to sugar beet so changed to speedy beet. After a few years he reacted to that also! He sort of has a hyper fit like a kid that has had too much pop:D
