My horse has had treatment for a tendon injury on his near side hind and am wondering what exclusions I can expect the insurance company to put on when it comes up to the 12 months, he also now has a problem with his off side fore (!!) bruising or something else, under investigation......

What sort of injuries have you had and what have they excluded - have heard tales of exclusions from the knee down for a foot abscess or a whole leg for an upper leg injury - any comments?

My mare had a foot abcess, which was treated successfully and no exclusions were added, we informed the insurance company that she had had it, but had no need to claim. She has now damaged a ligament in her foot, and we have had to use our full claim quota. I am expecting her whole leg to be excluded for this one.

CLY- It all depends who your insured with and how helpful your vet is. My mare damaged high suspensory and now has no exculsions at all. Pm me if you want to ask about it

You will get exclusion for ligament and tendon defo on that leg, you COULD get both hinds exclusion for ligament and tendon, but you shouldnt get exclused for cuts and puss. BUT i strongley advise you to get your Vets to do a report to your insurance company, but talk to insurance to see what you can do to reduce exclusions.
If you are with 'proper' company they will accept this way forward. In past i have had exclusion REMOVED by this method.......
But you will have to pay for reports by vets etc...

Mine had a DDFT injury on a foreleg, exclusion was DDFT on both forelegs, so all other tendons and ligaments fine to claim for.

Mine fractured his splint bone. When I asked the insurance company about it they said the whole leg would be excluded!

I told them that was ridiculous and could they double check it was the whole leg as I would assume it should just be the splint bone - they came back to me and chanegd their minds - just excluded the splint bone. Moral of the story - challenge them!

He also has mud fever excluded from his policy as it was on the vet report - I can get it removed if I get the vet to check it's gone though. A bit daft to exclude mud fever imo

My horse had contracted tendons as a foal and I put in a claim for loss of use when he was 5. Insurance company paid out and have excluded front feet but I have coverage for cuts etc.

I have exclusions on tendons and ligaments in hind legs.As he pulled another tendon in front leg I would expect that to be excluded next year .He is recovering from hock surgery at moment so looks like I will have a horse with no cover on his legs at all.Might have to consider changing insurance companies as I have had some problems and have now found out on latest claim that hospitalisation is not covered. They managed to put it in a different paragraph than vets fees so I missed the small print.GREAT!!!!!!!!

My insurance now dont give specific exclusions but rather exclude everything that occurs before the date of renewal!!!!

Rather badly explained but basically not sure if they can now wriggle out of all manor of things.... Its NFU if anyone cares to describe what they now do in better detail!!!
