I know, and I did warn my friend to go with someone else, but she has insured with them for years and has had a couple of claims paid out with no issues. She now has a claim that is "with their adjudicators" and has been since February!!! Is there an ombudsman or someone she can go to???

She should go to the insurance ombudsman and also threaten *&* with press exposure as that is what I had to do. I'd be happy to draft said press release on behalf of your friend if you need it (am journalist!

Iy shouldn't be a problem really if a straight forward, genuine claim. Make sure she has copies of every bit of correspondence and conversation and to double check her policy wording.

If there are still problems then go directly to the financial ombudsman. She should not panic, they are just awkward so just keep fighting. It shouldn't be the case and with other insurance companies it isn't, if you've provided all veterinary documentation and invoices along with the claim form they have nothing they can use as reasons for not paying up. Tell her to hang in there and don't give up!

I have to say I am constantly amazed this company are still in business and that H&H allow them to place ads every issue AND on this website! I do know they actually have a team of claims handlers who's job it is to just turn down claims automatically!

I got them to pay out by firstly sending a letter of complaint to the department manager then to the general manager - the details of how to do this are on the policy wording. If you still get no joy then complain to the insurance ombudsman - again the details are in the policy.
It took over six months for me to get a payment but they did pay up eventually. None of my letters were threatening in any way but they were straight to the point.
Good luck!

It is a totally genuine claim, the only slight complication is that she had her mares hocks x-rayed at the same time (which are excluded due to previous claim), obviously she isn't claiming for those x-rays and the vets have confirmed in writing that the KS is not related to previous hock problems. I think they hope she will just give up, plus all the time they keep her hanging on, she has little option, but to continue insuring with them (she will be changing companies the second their cheque has cleared. - Assuming they do cough up in the end).

My friend is going through the same thing with them, they did say they would pay out but now they are saying they wont, I am so glad I am not insured with them, sound utter crap.

As long as she persists and keeps copies of letters and writes down names of people she has spoken dates and times she should be ok.I have been this route several times had surgery in jan with permission then they turned me down wrote a letter of appeal and have just had payment .The time before I sent a letter to gen manager threatening ombudsman.I have got to go through same process again soon hes injured another leg. I havent been able to break away because of years treatment with ongoing claims its very tricky.I phoned them every week asking for a update you can ask for the name of the adjudicator dealing with your case and write to them asking for reason with delays .Offer your tel number and ask for updates.I asked my vet to write in on one occassion and on another told them the vet was threatening legal action for payment the money was through in 7 days. You wont get all the money in one hit .Im sure they know you cant break away if they still owe you a balance.
Dont give in if she needs any help pm me .
