To earn some extra cash I have placed an ad in our local parish magazine to walk dogs, check peoples homes and care for peoples pets in their absence etc (not house sitting). My question is, does anyone else out there do a similar thing and how do you cover yourself insurance wise? I have public liability on my dogs on their policy and for me on my horse insurance policy but what sort of cover should I seek when looking after other peoples animals? Thanks in advance

As a groom, I was looking at professional liability insurance through insurers like KBIS, SEIB etc.

Your public liability insurance for your horse will probably not cover you for business purposes, and you will also need care, control and custody insurance for looking after other people's animals.

Accident/critical illness cover would be worth looking into aswell if you choose to earn a greater proportion of your total income through dog walking.

Hi there
You should check with NARP (National Assoc Registered Petsitters). You can get insured thru them if you are a member. I would highly suggest that insurance is a must. I'm a self employed dog groomer, I have my own salon - and I (and a lady who rents a table from me ) have insurance thru Norwich Union. They may be able to help you as well.
