Horse that i have now sold had a vet bill which is being dealt with by nfu, i have recieved a photocopy of the claim form from my vet so obviously things are in motion, someone said don't tell them you have sold the horse or they won't pay out, the treatment was carried out while i still had the horse and she was of course covered by the insurance, i want to cancel that policy so i can insure new horse with them , i have also been told it should'nt matter that i don't have the horse anymore as she was insured at time of treatment , anybody know about these things ?

You can claim for any outstanding vet bills that are for the treatment the horse had when in your ownership and it was insured on the policy. From the date of sale (even if treatment was ongoing) you could not continue claiming as you have no insurable interest in the horse once it is no longer yours.

You shouldn't worry about doing a swap of horse on the policy or cancelling the policy, the ciam will still need to be settled by the insurer. However, note if you do cancel it you would not be entitled to a refund of premium paid for the time the horse has not been on cover.
