Anyone have any ideas of good horse insurers? I have been with Petplan for yrs and yrs and they have always been very good paying up with things, but aren't the cheapest!

I'd like an insurer that pays up, esp with vet fees with minimal hastle.......Also, obviously, one that is competitive in price.

I'd love some feedback. Experiences greatly received.

Stoneways were incredible with my mare. I rang up and had a cheque in the post the same day... no hassle or anything...and mine wasnt even a straight forward case. They were by far the cheapest too!! Though if your horse is 12 or over you do have to provide a vetting. Ill defo be insuring with them again!!

Very good experience with Shearwater. They dealt directly with the vets, so I had no messing about.

Absolutely terrible experience with SEIB, tried to get out of paying tendon claim as I hadn't told them I'd had a vet visit (only 1) 18 months earlier when she had a snotty nose. Thankfully she is endurance horse, so I could provide evidence that she was fit & well inbetween these events. They also took money from my account for a policy I didn't have on a trailer! Never got an apology from them. Difficult to deal with & it's as though they think you're lying to them, very unpleasant.

second seib are really bad or were with my mare and refused to pay out for ks treatment as they said there records showed she was vetted and i never sent the vetting!! point being she wasnt vetted at all. 7mths battle 3500 vet bill and no horse god bless her and then they tried to continue taking money yet wouldnt accept my claim

now with nfu and they are great so far ;)

NFU. I had to call the Vet out on Monday to my very suddenly, very lame mare.
I rang NFU to let them know, and asked them if I had to ring them to get any subsequent treatments authorised by them before the Vet went ahead.

NFU were brilliant and told me to go ahead and do whatever was needed to help my horse (only an MRI has to be approved by them beforehand).

I'd second DH1 for NFU. They are not the cheapest you can get but the service is excellent, they pay out and they put the horse forward. When i phoned them in tears when one of mine was nearly put down, they phoned my local NFU office who then phoned me and asked if I wanted them to pop round for some moral support! They took care of everything and said they would sort the whole horrid thing out, which was a massive help. Luckily the Ginger Ninja was ok so it all ended happily! I think they are fab.

I think PM makes a really good point.
When you are worried and distressed about your horse, it makes such a difference to have confidence in your insurer and to feel as though they actually understand and care. That to me, is worth paying for.

PS. PM I am glad the Ginger Ninja is ok.
