I have a Connie mare who I have owned for approx 5 years. Have always been with Petplan Equine (not made a claim fortunately!) But the monthly cost is expensive - just over £100
The cover includes 3rd party liability, personal injury, as well as 5k cover for each illness or injury.

A friend has recommended NFU as being cheaper and also good for paying out. I'm going to call NFU for a quote today, but wondered about others' experiences.

Thanks.

I’m with NFU but sorry can’t actually say how good they are as thankfully haven’t used them for anything. They were really good to deal with when I set up though as I wanted my lass covered for travelling over and that was no bother. My insurance is over £100 a month but I’ve also got loss of use which I should probably ditch.

Ah, so possibly my pet plan isn't that expensive afterall?

Thanks very much everyone. I rand the NFU for a quote today, and was told a lady would call me back later that morning, but she didn't. I'll chase it up on Monday.

Im insured up to 4.5k with insurance emporium incl loss of use is £78 a month. Vets have dealt with the paperwork but it seems its all going smoothly and easy to claim etc.
They are really easy to claim and I've had no hassle with them. Had to move though as they now have 25% of the vet bill plus 250 as excess and that makes most claims not worth it now.

I've moved to KBIS as got a really good quote.

I was with NFU early on and they were expensive but good. Got a recent quote from seib but they annoyed me because they wanted 7.5% extra for monthly payments.

Mine is 17.5%, not 25%? Admit I hadn't noticed it ( despite them telling me there were "important changes" on renewal) but my monthly premium is half of the Petplan quote, and I've claimed from E&L/Emporium with no problems in the past...Will look at KBIS for next year though!

I'm with Scottish Equestrian and I don't think I'm paying that much - I think it's £57 per month but I can check if it would be useful to you at all. They've paid probably almost £2K with no issues on an arthritis claim, and the premiums didn't go up too much. That said my horse didn't cost me much and he's under insured by as much as was allowed, so I suspect that has an impact. I also have the maximum excess (£500) set.

I haven’t heard of them! Must look into this thank you.

These people probably insure with companies that offer much less in terms of cover or they have to pay a percentage of the bill.
@Sossigpoker You beat me to it, you get what you pay for, if its cheap, check the cover. From what I read, most people's issues are they are not aware of some of the limitations in the product they bought. Read the small print thoroughly to avoid surprises
