some advice needed please

i am looking at buying a schoolmaster which is 15 years old , he is quite alot of money , or certainly is to me

i will be having him vetted & xrayed if i go ahead , i want to make sure he will not break down in the short term but also want to make sure i can provide him with the best of care so good insurance will be essential , i would most likely keep him for the rest of his life

my current insurers change to the veteran policy at 15 years old which only covers a low value & vets fees for external injury , which i feel is really not appropriate in this case

can anyone recommend an insurer with a more comprehensive policy for an older competition horse?

much appreciated

I would ask who they currently insure the horse with. In the case of my insurance company the normal horse insurance carries on until they are 20 it might be the same if you continue with the company the horse is already insured with.

thankyou

seib start at 15 for veterans & the cover limits are low & resticted to accidents on vet cover so no good there

nfu do veterans at 16+ but i had heard that if you already had a horse covered with a particular insurer they would continue the normal cover to age 20 , is that nfu?

Shearwater offer a full cover option (but NOT LOU) for 16 year olds & this can run to 17 depending on their history during the time insured. If the horse is insured prior to being 16 then this is made easier.

Can also offer cover for higher uses for older horses.
