Hi, it's been a long time since I have posted on here but I'm hoping you can help me.

Due to a set of unfortunate circumstances, I have a horse I'm considering loaning out.
He is 25, but fit and willing and the question of vet fees has arisen. He isn't insured, and so that makes the vet fees queston a little more complicated as to who pays them.

I have been looking into accidental injury and someone suggested catastrophy cover, bu t I don't know exactly how useful they are/if tend to ever claim on them.

What are your thoughts? What would you expect in regards to vet fees and loaning an older horse?

You need to make sure your loan contract is watertight. I’d suggest you ensure that the loaner is initially responsible for all vets bills. Any age related/ongoing treatment required to be discussed on a case by case basis

I think you should be responsible for all vet bills from a moral point of view for an ageing horse. I certainly wouldn’t take on a horse of that age on loan if I was footing the vets fees myself.
