I’ve just had my renewal quote for my house insurance and it’s up 40% from last year (which in turn had doubled from the first year we were here). Any recommendations for good but not eye wateringly expensive cover? It’s for a detached house, outbuildings, yard with four stables and grazing land.

We are with NFU, not cheap but everything random like outbuildings etc covered and when we have had to claim it's been done no questions. They also sent us a random cheque not long ago as apparently we over paid 15 odd year ago for something, so we got a rebate 🙂

Sadly house insurance is going up by astronomical % year on year, sometimes up to 70% (see thread in Club House about this).

Perhaps try a good broker - someone will probably be along to recommend.

Who are you with at the moment? NFU Mutual have a good policy wording although not cheap.

Try a broker - they will have access to an array of HNW insurers that will cover land, stabling etc. iFarm do a household policy that you can add specific sections - but only a broker can access the cover.

I've got a DIY livery yard and live on site. A Grade II listed farmhouse, and some outbuildings.

Towergate are the only ones who've quoted me a sensible-enough price to prevent me selling my body to the Devil. NFU wouldn't quote. Cornish Mutual quoted me a ridiculous price, and the others ditto.
