i want to take Llewi drag-hunting. He has done normal hunting before I got him and the local drag-hunt have a meet at Tweseldown on Sunday - he's been there XC schooling and I'm gagging to do some jumping again. Never been hunting before but it sounds good fun, even if everyone I tell thinks I'm mad!

But, his class of insurance doesn't include hunting. My premium will go through the roof if I up him to the top risk category to include hunting. If I dont and he injures himself on Sunday then he wont be covered for vets fees I assume? But, I'm not planning on going very often and cant really afford a massive increase in premium. Then again, cant afford not to be insured for vets fees either.

Any thoughts? Those who hunt, do you have the top class insurance?

Some insurers eg. Petplan will put you up a catgory for a day. I did this a few years back for team-chasing and they said, as long as they were notified in advance, they would add it on up to 4 times a year for 24hrs at no extra cost.

Hate to suggest something so immoral to a professional but I could be inclined to class drag-hunting as a sponsored ride or something similar should the worst happen....

it just frustrates me to go up 2 classes insurance for one day when i go on sponsored rides all the time and do just as much galloping and jumping!

I am a member of the CA, and the insurance covers you for country pursuits including hunting, and im sure its personal accident cover as well as public liability. I agree with gamebirds comments, as its not really 'hunting'.

Its relatively cheap to join and you should join anyway really if you are hunting
