Insurance for mutli horse owners?

How do you go about insuring all your horses? do you insure individual/ use BHS Gold or other.

I have just had my renewals for the year and its got me thinking about changing things around.

I have BHS Gold membership, the superstar pony insured for full value including LoU and my bargain pony insured for a low value but with full cover for vets fees. I could save a lot if I took off the LoU cover but that feels like tempting fate to me and she's too precious to me!

I've got a policy for each but use BHS Gold for liability and have the higher excess, no LoU and no equipment cover to keep the premiums down. I try to keep at least the excess amount aside at all times in case I need it.

Having previously made large claims (and with very little impact on my premiums for that horse), I'm a firm believer in having insurance, even though it works out expensive, unless you have a large amount of savings! My premiums amount to £800 a year and I've easily claimed 3x that much on one condition.
