I am taking on 2/3 full/part liveries at a small private yard. I know that I need public liability and care, custody and control insurance. I won't be employing anyone else and will be doing it all myself. I also work and ride freelance a bit so would this Insurance cover me for this too? I am already insured but don't want to be paying double unnecessarily.

I've been quoted £700 per year for the above - does this sound about right?

Mine is about £550 for a similar arrangement. I can have up to 5 livery horses (I have 3) plus some of my own - I think up to a total of 12. It wouldn't cover me working and riding for anyone though - mine are DIY only, and I don't have staff. Perhaps call the insurer to see if it covers riding too.

Might also be worth checking with the council... as it would be a business you would be needing to pay business rates which could easily get rid of any potential profit.

Business rates are unlikely to apply, the set up doesn't sound big enough. There's been a few threads on the subject fairly recently.
I can't help on the insurance side, but I'd be interested to know if the public liability is separate to the care custody and control, and if so do you know what it breaks down to?
