Friend is having horse on trial which we hope to pick up on Sunday. We need insurance for the trial period. We have a local NFU which doesn't open on Saturdays so can anyone recommend anything we could arrange over the internet?

I assume there will be companies who will offer temporary insurance in these circumstances - does anyone have any experience?

Thankies :)

Think tou can do SEIB over internet and they were fine when I used them. Don't know if you can do temp cover though, think you just have to take out policy then cancel if it dosen't work out.

Most insurance policies do not kick in for 14 days, so you need something VERY specific, and the only way you will get that is to speak to a broker, sorry!

the best way would be to see if they could pay the owner for a month to continue there policy so he would be covered at all times instead of 14 days down the line

I would have thought that the owner should still insure the horse for the trial period as technically it is still their horse. Your friend might want to offer to pay the owner for the insurance premium for the duration of the trial. get everything written in the sale contract... Thats what I did...

That said, I think Scottish Equestrian insurance services are open on a Saturday... I might be wrong though...

Thanks everyone. NFU do offer a policy for trial periods, but we need to get it sorted out before Sunday. May get friend to ask owner to ensure that horse will still be insured whilst with us, and then offer to pay as suggested.

Thanks again.
