Wondering who you insure your horses and ponies over 15 with?
Have a childrens pony I want to insure for death cover. Usually with NFU but they will only cover for £500. Pony is 17 so hardly ancient.
Know quite a few of you insure older animals on here. Not looking to insure for vets fees

My 21yo and 17yo are both insured with SEIB who I have found to be very professional. I was with NFU but find the local office so incompetent that after 10 years of trying to keep them right I gave up.

Glad to hear it sounds as though the pony is staying!

Our veteran (20) is insured with KBIS for illness/injury though and not LOU or death, for £170ish (he is on a policy with 2 other ponies so hard to tell exactly!) Whilst this is not what you want, they may be worth looking into as seemed quite reasonable for veterans!

The other one that was a similar price was petplan on their veteran scheme, I decided not to go with them, as they won't insure veterans for illness only injury, and seemed cagey about what an injury would count as, as it cannot have arisen from an underlying problem, BUT they did include death in the policy, which was again around £200 for a value of £1500 iirc, may be worth looking into!

Bloss is insured with SEIB (see post below) shes 18. She is insured for up to 5k vets fees and being in a field (shes a broodmare at the moment). My 3rd party cover as from today is with the BHS as have just taken out Gold Membership as it works out a lot cheaper for me this way. However once she has foaled she will no longer be insured and just covered 3rd party via the BHS - i have a pot already which is emergancy spending so will keep adding to that instead. With insurance she only now has 1 leg that is insured and thats it so seems pointless!!

Petplan - Poster above made the mistake of asking for the 'veteran plan' rather than fully insuring the older horse as normal.

My 19 year old is covered for illness & injury, with full £5k vets fees until shes 25 as she was insured before she was 16.
