Following on from the insurance post, I wondered how many of us who have yearlings insure them, and if so who you insure them with, what they are insured for and how much you pay?

I currently have one yearling who is insured, and am buying another who will be insured also (will shop around for best deals), and so am interested to see what others insure for.

I insure my yearling with PetPlan, just for £1000 which includes 5K vets and it costs me £13.50 a monthm which I think is pretty good value.

whenever I am putting the info in, bar the insure my horse one recommended above, it is coming up a lot more than 13.50 per month. I know what I will be paying as I already have the other yearling insured, but I wonder what makes some premiums cheaper than others?

Re premium differences - depends on ratings and what covers you are requesting basically. Plus any admin charges that are added.

I think it is a pretty basic policy, I don't think it includes any 3rd party ins and obvoiusly no tack or rider injuries. I just wanted to cover for vets fees just to be on the safe side as some youngsters can be so accident prone. Touch wood she isn't!!

So what do youy class as everything? I'm unsure what you would want other than vets fees?

My filly is insured to the value of £3500. the premium cost about £300 for the year and I have her isnured for pretty much everything including £4000 worth of vets bills... which is comming in very handy! Oh, and she's with scottish equestrian (or what used to be)

Surely you at least want third party liability too???!!! They can get onto roads etc just like any other horse...albeit not as freely

Are well, I joined the BHS for that, much cheaper option, generally better cover and you a get a feee ticket to Hickstead once a year!!

yes, BHS Gold membership for 3rd party covers them all

NFU for yealring ( now two) for loss, 5K vets fees .

Would not touch any co with a certain York postcode as have no wish to be on Watchdog programme,
