Hi,

I have never insured a Horse before so every site is looking like goble de gook! I think I have covered what I wanted.

I will be using her for hacking, schooling, light jumping and local shows. So far Ive had quotes ranging from the cheapest £281.46 to the most expensive £379.68.

The cheapest cover included:

Death theft and straying - sum insured £2500 (what she cost me)
Third party liabilty - £1 million
Vet fees - £3500

I am not fussed about tack, it isn't expensive as I am mainly a happy hacker. I don't have a trailor to insure either.

Is that ok, do I need more? This is so mind boggleling! I want to get it sorted ASAP

Thanks :) :o xx

There are certain companies out there, who may possibly give the cheapest quote who may not be the best, in that some/most vets won't touch them with a bargepole and it means you have to pay the bills and then claim the money back..... a search on here will give you an idea

Tack you may be able to get on your contents insurance, and I was advised to join the BHS and get the membership liability cover

The cheapest quote is with Petplan, I have heard good things about them. From a member on here and a friend at my old livery yard.

Personally I would up the vets fees to £5000.....

£3500 won't get you far if your horse ever needs investigations into anything half serious....

Thank you for the replys, I have found another, more expensive but covers more. This is with KBIS

Incident Limit - £5000, will go up to £7500 in the event of colic curgery
Excess - £350
Hospitalisation - £250
Annual limit - unlimited
Complementary Treatment - £500
carcass disposal - £200

Public liability - £ 2 million

Does that one sound better? sorry you must all think I'm such a numptie :o

The KBIS quote is very similar to mine! They were great at paying out with Red's last claim and very helpful if you have a query. You can also sometimes find discount codes on their website

edit: my excess is £125
