My pony isnt insured. Hes a three year old gelding,12.2 hh no health problems. After readjng the vet fees thread thought id look jntk insurjng him. Ive bee. Quoted £48 a month. His value is £950. Is this an average quote? Theres lots they dont cover such as homeopathy and boardjng livery fees at hosptal. I think it sounds expensive.

Harry Halls catastrophe cover is very good value. It only covers 'external' injuries so wouldn't pay for navicular diagnosis for example.
I think you can pay extra to include colic cover.

I had to put in a claim with them this year for an infected cut from a field injury and they were very easy to deal with and paid promptly.

Just to point out its external visible injuries also which actually doesnt really cover a huge amount. The cover I'd want and that can really run up huge vet bills is lameness. Just a work up costs £££ I just think if your going to pay for insurance you may as well get proper cover.
I tried to claim for a kick once. Horse was desperatly lame and i knew he'd been kicked but there was no visible external mark.

Sounds about right. Vets bills arnt cheaper because the horse is worth less. (Though of course maybe you’d spend less… but probably not less of the insurance companies money!)

I actually insure across two companies for my pony.

He is insured for third party liability and for his value should be die through one. That's about £98 for the year. I believe that's Insurance Imporium.

The other is Veterinary cover only. It covers £3500 of vets fees I think but I have to pay 25% of the claim. It's £18 a month.

I'll take the hit on anything exceeding that amount within reason.
