Now our numbers have increased (We're now at 8 of our own) the insurance we have on each horse (Loss of horse and vets fees) is getting a bit steep!

What do you guys with small or larger studs do about insuring all your beasties?... or do you just take a risk?

Also what insurance do you need to stand a stallion? And have other peoples horses on your land.

As we are a working livestock farm we have public liability cover anyway!

Not all my youngstock are insured. I insure anything that is out competing or being ridden. I have insurance with a high vet excess (sometimes called catastrophy vet fees) which helps keep my premiums down. I never insure for loss of use. I shop around for the best policy for each animal and currently use Petplan (tough they have stopped their high excess for new customers), Carriage House and NFU. No insurance company as far as I know does a block policy. I also have public liability cover.

Insurance for visiting mares is the responsibility of the owner.
