Insurance Query???

Horsey been diagnosed with ligament strain in back. The vet thinks it is linked to what she thought was footsoreness in January this year, so started the claim from then.

However, i did get the vet in October 08 because he was being a bit nappy and bucking - he was only 5 1/2 at time and it was put down to behaviour - no back pain or lameness present, had physio out as well on vet suggestion and he found nothing.

The insurance has asked for a full clinical history, as vet mentioned the October episode.

What will they do? Im absolutely ill thinking if they dont pay it will be a nightmare.

My horse had the exact same problem. He also bucked as a 5 / 6 year old but nothing really found. Then started with the cold backed behaviour and got worse. Had vet out to x-ray for kissing spines but nothing there and was out down to ligamnet strain. Had steroid injection into the back and nothing since.

You will have to provide history, the insurance company will be looking to see that its not an old/pre existing issue that you are claiming for. Without the history they will stall with your claim. Just ensure that if they have any queries and try to link the current condition with the previous behaviour issue that the vet will fully back you up. If they say there was no back/ligament pain then they cant really argue - as much as they would like to! Be firm!!

That happened to me but with my dog not my horse, they did pay out. To my surprise they even paid me for the previous treatment, which was with another vet.

The insurance company would need to get something from either your vet or physio to say that this ligament strain began in Oct 08. If neither are able to categorically sp? say that then the insurance company wont have a leg to stand on to not pay out. Just get the clinical and maybe something from your physio saying it was just due to his age to fight your corner a bit more?

Vets just like to cover their own back and will tell insurance companies everything even if it's not related.

Thanks everyone! The vet catagorically said with the bucking issue that he had no back pain so hopefully all OK and physio said same! He was 5 stage vetted in April 08 hen i bought him and insurance have the certificate, so hopefully with full clinical report, all will be OK.

Its sooo stressful as he is alreday at the physios yard having treatment for 5 weeks, i will pay for treatment regardless, but would rather the insurance did! The vet who has treated him has left the practice 2 weeks ago, so i hope this doesnt cause problems too!

Insurance will cover you from the start of the problem for a 12 month period so if problem was first noted october 08 then the cover would run for 12 months from this date. If the problem in January is unrealted to the problem in Oct 08 then you will have 12 months to claim from jan 09.

Insurance will always ask for previous history as long as its not pre exsisting dont worry!!
