George has just been diagnosed with a dust allergy / early RAO :( and at the moment it is thankfully very mild, which the vet is hopeful it can be managed without drugs. He has just had a course of anti bs (just in case it was an infection) and ventipulmin, I have put in a claim as the bill was over my excess and I have of course paid my excess. I am fully expecting to need further investigations as the vet was talking about scoping him, and the possibility of him needing inhalers :(

So here is the stupid question, if it is all connected to the same problem do I have to pay an excess each time I claim, or just the excess that I have just paid? I do realise that I can only claim for a year, before they include this problem.

Thanks :)

No, you only pay the excess once. In my case, I pay the £135 excess then I can spend up to £5000 on vet's fees related to that claim, in the 12 months. For my current claim, my vet filled out the forms and sent them off with the invoices then I get a letter saying £135 owing (excess), £XXX billed to insurance company. Each time he comes out afterwards or sends me medication relating to that claim, they just send the bills to the insurance company. Insurance co then write to me telling me they've paid £X amount directly to my vet.

Hope George is OK :)

Thats right. You just pay the excess once.

I paid my excess of £140 and have up to £4000 vet fees. No idea how far along the price we are at now, but have just had a head x ray done to add to the rest of the bill since July.

You just pay the excess one, the vets will continue to claim from the insurance company until the claim ribs out, either my meeting your maximum cost limit or after a year.
Then you will have to pay for any other treatment in relation to that injury/problem.
