I contacted my insurance who I have my own horse insured bascially to ask what other type of insurance I'd require when riding other horses, quoted for for a rider only policy, but they said if one of the horses I ride is on loan then my RO policy would not cover you or the horse if the horse is on loan as it would be in your care, custody and control as if it were your own horse and this PA package only covers you for riding other peoples horses, which I can understand.

So they said to ask the owner if she has Personal Accident cover on the horses policy - if she DOES, it will cover you too as you have her horse with her permission -assuming that she is not insured with E&L, Entertainment & Leisure, Equine & Livestock or Horseinsurance.com - they believe that all additional riders have to be named with them, so it would be best for the owner to check this out. If she doesn't have Personal Accident on her policy, they said ask her to add it.

What you do you guys do about insurance on a horse that you are taking on loan?

I'm a bit struck with this one too. I loan a horse and the owner has her insured, but I'm not sure if I should insure her myself and let the owner cancel her policy, or if I should just be on her policy as a named rider?

Yeah well I think my insurance was basically saying the owner should keep the policy and add me as a rider or make sure that with her permission the horse will be covered but I'm sure there is a loop hole, because I will be the one responsible for the horse, basically it may only be for 6 months over while she get back into riding him and has more time, so it works out well both ways but if I was to insure him myself, well I dread to know how much it would cost me a month
