Hi guys,

Could I please pick your mighty and wise brains (I'm sucking up, can you tell?!) We've just bought a gorgeous two year old Highland pony and I'm debating who to go to for insurance. The BHS offers public liability and personal accident cover at a very good rate. Should I get him covered for vet's bills too and if so, who o you recommend who will do good vet only insurance?

Ta muchly!

I don't think there are many (if any) insurers who would just offer vets fees only cover as most offer basic packages and then you selecr vets fees as an optional extension to the cover. However, I think the likes of Petplan and NFU do give you the option to have the cover without having liability which is handy if you already have it. Most insuers though include it as automatic/compulsory cover.

You could try the above companies or maybe try an insurance broker who can search the market for you. There are also some online quote companies - insuremyhorse.co.uk (no it has nothing to do with E&L) and also Lloyd and Whyte Insurance. Other than that there are some brokers such as Kerry or Julie Andrews who will find you a good deal.

You basically need to find one that suits your individual requirements. if you really only want vets fees then you'll have to search for one that does more tailor made policies.

NFU, Petplan, KBIS and SEIB are good insurers who will cover you for Death, Theft and Straying (which you have to have basic cover) and Vets Fees and then you bolt anything else on.
