hi
ive just gotten my renewal pack and they have put an exclusion on "all tendons and ligaments in BOTH front legs"
now i was fully expecting them to put an exclusion on his near fore tendon as i have made a claim on that this year ,but can they exclude both legs and the ligaments as well

iv'e also had the vet for him having mild colic & getting cast a few weeks ago and iv'e not imformed insurance yet ,will they also exclude colic claims ?

i will ring them but just opened the letter now and it doesn't seem worth renewing :( but he means the world to me and iv'e always had him insured :(

thanks for any help :(

Basically the insurance companies can exclude what ever takes their fancy, yes they are likely to exclude colic now .If you dont accept their exclusions they wont insure you full stop .
A lot depends what company you are with some are more negotiable than others on exclusions .For example NFU excluded colic on one of my horses but agreed that if she went 6months without colic they would lift the exclusion.
A lot of companies now have a catch all statement in the policy that they will not cover the horse for anything it has suffered in the past whether you claim or not. They have you every way ,I dont insure any more as it is not worth the agro .

Will you be claiming on the insurence for the colic? if not.. dont mention it.. lol.

But as said before they will exclude what they like.. You could always ring and speak to them about the situation and see if there is any room for negotiation.

Pop, does that mean you are not covered for public liability?

hi thanks
:( i will ring them as i think its really unreasnable for them to exclude the sound leg and if they won't negociate ill have to have a think about having him insured at all :( but its like taking a gamble on his life if something serious were to go wrong but then again i don't think he'd be covered for colic now any way :(

i will have to tell them about the colic as they asked for a full history from my vet before they would pay out for his tendon ,so if they did the same for a colic claim i'd be a bit up s*** greek with out a paddle :(

Good point.. Uf you ride on the road, I suggest at the very least you maintain Public Liability.. because I know Id be damned annoyed if someones horse kicked my care and they were not insured.

Out of interest who do you insure with?

I am covered 3rd party through discipline membership all tack is on my household as specified sporting goods which is cheaper .Horses I must admit I am fortunate to have enough put aside to cover any eventuality. The problem for 1 horse owners is having Insurance is like doing the lottery in that if you make a claim you win but you can also pay a lot out and not see any back.
